Link Found Between Neck Trauma, Cerebrospinal Fluid Leaks and Multiple Sclerosis

The Pain Stops at Dopps

A study published in Physiological Chemistry and Physics and Medical NMR

(20 September 2011), draws a link between abnormal cerebrospinal fluid hydrodynamics and the onset of Multiple Sclerosis. Pg_192_Skull_and_Spine

UPRIGHT® MRI images were taken, which showed cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cinematography. Quantitative measurements of CSF velocity, flow and pressure gradients in the upright patient revealed that significant obstructions to CSF flow were present in all eight Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients.

The obstructions are believed to be responsible for CSF leakagesfrom the ventricles into the surrounding the nervous tissue in the brain. These leakages can be the source of the MS lesions in the brain, causing MS symptoms.

With multiple obstructions of the flow of CSF, coupled with an increased intracranial pressure, this causes the cerebrospinal fluid to leak out, along with antigenic proteins. The immune systems response to these antigenic proteins, demonstrates the same type of erosion of the nerves’ sheath, or demyelination, associated with MS.

All of the patients in this study, had a history of cranio-cervical trauma, half of which had noted whiplash from a motor vehicle accident. All symptoms started, between one to 27 years after the trauma, disrupting the flow of the CSF and causing the leakage of antigenic proteins. The range of documented symptoms were vast and spanned from vision loss and muscular imbalances to headaches and numbness in the face, all of which are common with MS.

The study authors, Raymond Damadian and David Chu, showed a misalignment of C1 was found on the MRI images of the cervical spine. It was successfully treated by Dr. Scott Rosa D.C., using upper cervical chiropractic care.

The patient’s symptoms, severe vertigo accompanied by vomiting when recumbent (lying down ) and stumbling from unequal leg length, ceased upon treatmentsaid Dr. Rosa. The pre and post treatment analysis of the CSF flow leakages showed they dramatically decreased and were more evenly distributed.

Dopps Chiropractic NE focuses on spinal biomechanics and the ability to activate the body’s inherent ability to heal, through a properly functioning nervous system, delivered through the chiropractic adjustment.
