Dopps Chiropractic Clinic, LLC has been one of the largest chiropractic clinics in the country and it is a homegrown business of Wichita. Dopps Chiropractic Clinics were started with one clinic in East Wichita in 1976. Dr. Brad Dopps was the first Dr. Dopps, D.C. but many more would soon follow in what would become many individual clinics with a common thread, all owned by a Dr. Dopps. Although the clinics are independently owned and operated the name resonates in every circle where chiropractic is mentioned.
The Dopps Clinic located at 5119 E Kellogg Drive has been a landmark clinic which was owned by Brian, John and Brad Dopps. Thousands of patients have sought care at this clinic since it is one of the largest and most visible clinics in the community. There have been many other collaborative clinics that were sponsored by Dopps over the past 40 years. In total more than 45 chiropractic clinics have operated under the Dopps name.
As clinics mature there are sometimes restrictions on space. When this occurs, it is good to branch out and start new activity in areas where patient access and needs are better served. The clinic at 5119 E Kellogg has reached this turning point. Though all the Doctors and staff are relocating to different areas, within the metro area, all are staying in the profession.
Dr. Brad Dopps is moving into a facility located in West Wichita at 834 N Socora and will be sharing office space with Advanced Physical Therapy (APT). APT is the region’s largest Physical therapy network and was co-founded in a collaborative effort with David Todd PT, Derry Larson CPA and Dr. Brad Dopps. The new clinic will be called Advanced Chiropractic which will be a new name for Dr. Brad Dopps who has practiced under the Dopps name previously. Although it is somewhat melancholy it is a good move for the practice of Dr. Brad and he is looking forward the expansion of his business model.
Dr. Brian has enjoyed his practice in Milton Kansas where he has a very active and successful practice. His love for the country life and raising some of the finest miniature Hereford cattle in the country makes his visits to Wichita more difficult each year. Dr. Brian will be focusing his attention on his clinic located in Suppesville, KS, his family and the associate clinics that he owns in partnership with Dr. Brad. Dr. Brian and his wife and office manager Daydree do the lion’s share of managing those two suburban clinics. The rural life fits Brian well and expanding into the rural areas of Kansas is something that comes naturally for him.
Dr. John is moving to a busy practice on the west side of Wichita, where he will be in practice with his brother Dr. Rob Dopps. His new location will be 7130 Maple St, on the northeast corner of Maple and Ridge Road. He is looking forward to helping his patients old and new in his new location. Dr. John will also continue to pursue his second passion of selling used cars.
There were three associate doctors who practiced on East Kellogg as well. Dr. Kevin Darden will be moving to a new location at 9235 E. Harry St. Dr. Jerry DeGrado and Dr. Mike Stanley will be moving into a beautiful clinic located at 555 N. McLean Blvd. This is a Dopps Clinic owned by Dr. Mark Dopps. It is quite spectacular with a view overlooking the Arkansas River and Cow Town. Their clinic is without a doubt one of the largest chiropractic clinics locally. Dr. DeGrado will continue to serve on the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts, and as a consultant for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas.
It is a bittersweet end to a good partnership. All of the Doctors and staff on East Kellogg would like to thank their patients and friends for the confidence and trust you placed in them. They have witnessed first-hand thousands of success stories over the years and they feel blessed to have helped so many. As none are leaving the profession they all plan to continue treating patients at their new locations. Good Luck to Dr. Brad, Dr. John, Dr. Brian, Dr. Darden, Dr. DeGrado and Dr. Stanley as they continue to provide excellence in Chiropractic Care.

Serving Wichita with 11 different, independently owned offices. Can you imagine being told by doctors that the only “approved” medical treatment for your condition is to have your first rib removed?
This is what Alex was told after being diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome several years ago. Alex is 28 and has been a patient of Dr. Ryan at Dopps Chiropractic NE for 3 years.
“It causes numbness and fatigue in my arms,” said Alex. “It can also cause blood clots to form. Since seeing Dr. Dopps, my symptoms have been controlled and my migraines have also been managed.”
Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS) describes a group of disorders where there is excess pressure on a neurovascular bundle. It can be caused by physical trauma, repeated strain, sports or anatomical defects.
This compression of blood vessels and/or nerves affects the upper limbs, neck and chest, causing intermittent or permanent pain, discoloration, weakness and tingling. If it involves the vertebral artery it may even cause vision disturbances and temporary or permanent blindness.
This condition can be found hiding behind Frozen Shoulder Syndrome, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Forward Head Posture. It is known to be aggravated by poor posture.
Chiropractors work specifically with the spine, which houses the nervous system, making chiropractic an excellent choice for dealing with TOS compressions. A chiropractor’s main concern is to correct these vertebral subluxations to allow the body to communicate properly with itself for health.
The spine is a highway for trillions of nerve signals to travel from the brain to the rest of the body. Interference or a subluxation causes the body to not function optimally. A pinched nerve can disrupt the brain’s ability to communication with a part of the body, increasing the possibility of dysfunction.
Traditional medical treatments for TOS are rather limited, and include Cortisone and Botox injections or surgery.
A good chiropractor treats sick people, not for the treatment of disease, but to prevent the problems that the subluxation can do to the spinal cord and the rest of the body. Chiropractic founder B.J.Palmer said chiropractic is not the only way to health, but it is a more practical way.

Serving Wichita with 11 different, independently owned offices. With the debate raging on about health care reform, a pilot study indicating chiropractic care and other physical medicine approaches may reduce costs is VERY TIMELY!
In 2008, Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield conducted a 1-year pilot program designed to study the quality of patient care. The researchers concluded that the use of chiropractic and other physical medicine services significantly improved clinical outcomes and reduced health care costs. The 2008 Iowa and South Dakota pilot study included 238 chiropractors, physical therapists and occupational therapists that provided care to 5500 Wellmark patients with musculoskeletal disorders. They reported 89% of all patients receiving physical medicine services improved at least 30% within 30 days. These statistics were so impressive that they decided to continue the program.
Supporters of chiropractic treatment praised the findings, saying that the cost-effectiveness of the method has been documented in several studies.
The president of the American Chiropractic Association, Glenn Manceaux, referred to a 2005 study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics that found chiropractic and medical care have comparable costs for treating chronic low-back pain, with chiropractic care producing significantly better outcomes. Similarly, a study published in a 2003 edition of Spine medical journal found that manual manipulation provides better short-term relief of chronic spinal pain than a variety of medications, he said – “Especially during the health care reform debate, it’s important that chiropractic and other conservative care methods are taken into serious consideration as a cost-effective alternative to the utilization of expensive surge
Serving Wichita with 11 different, independently owned offices.During National Chiropractic Health Month (NCHM) this October, the American Chiropractic Association is working with the more than 130,000 doctors of chiropractic (DCs), chiropractic assistants (CAs) and chiropractic doctoral students nationwide to help educate the public and policymakers about the value of a “conservative care first” approach to health care.
“During National Chiropractic Health Month, DCs are encouraging patients to ask questions and learn about safe, effective conservative approaches that may help them avoid riskier and more costly treatments.”
This health care model encourages emphasis on more cost-effective and safer approaches over potentially addictive medications for pain management and health enhancement. Conservative management of painful conditions may include chiropractic manipulation combined with exercise and stretching prior to moving on to procedures involving higher risk.
During NCHM, chiropractors will share information with patients and their communities to empower them to become their own advocates by insisting on information about conservative treatment options.
Why is “Conservative Care First” more important today than ever in facing our nation’s healthcare challenges?
“People need complete information about their treatment options,” said ACA President Anthony Hamm, DC. “During National Chiropractic Health Month, DCs are encouraging patients to ask questions and learn about safe, effective conservative approaches that may help them avoid riskier and more costly treatments.”

Serving Wichita with 11 different, independently owned offices. From the establishment of in-patient chiropractic sanitariums to publication of a text with contributions from two Nobel Laureates, doctors of chiropractic have a long history of providing care for persons with mental health issues. The PRISM (Psychological response in spinal manipulation) study was a systematic review of psychological outcomes in twelve randomised controlled trials. The authors reported a small improvement in psychological outcomes after spinal manipulation compared with verbal interventions and other physical treatments, with small and medium sized standardized mean differences (SMDs) in favor of manipulation compared to primary care and advice. The potential of chiropractic care to improve psychological outcomes deserves further exploration.

This landmark study was a randomized, controlled trial of hypertensive patients. Those in the intervention group received a form of upper cervical chiropractic care (NUCCA). The authors wrote, “We conclude that restoration of Atlas alignment is associated with marked and sustained reductions in BP similar to the use of two-drug combination therapy.” This study received extensive positive exposure in the media.

#thoughtoftheweek || With the kick off of professional football last night, it makes me wonder who’s team are we on. The innate intelligence that flows through our body is like the QB, calling all of the shots and modifying all the plays. With lower amounts of interference, or subluxations, your QB is allowed to perform better and your bodies function is victorious! Interceptions, turnover and an occasional fumble can occur when we go against the bodies healing processes, inhibiting it from doing what it was designed to. Get adjusted and stand behind your QB, letting him call the game. #getadjusted #chiroblog #chalkaboutchiropractic #drdopps #doppschiro #adio
Our initial report analyzed clinical and cost utilization data from the years 1999 to 2002 for an integrative medicine independent physician association (IPA) whose primary care physicians (PCPs) were exclusively doctors of chiropractic. This report updates the subsequent utilization data from the IPA for the years 2003 to 2005 and includes first-time comparisons in data points among PCPs of different licensures who were oriented toward complementary and alternative medicine (CAM).
Independent physician association-incurred claims and stratified random patient surveys were descriptively analyzed for clinical utilization, cost offsets, and member satisfaction compared with conventional medical IPA normative values. Comparisons to our original publication’s comparative blinded data, using nonrandom matched comparison groups, were descriptively analyzed for differences in age/sex demographics and disease profiles to examine sample bias.
Clinical and cost utilization based on 70,274 member-months over a 7-year period demonstrated decreases of 60.2% in-hospital admissions, 59.0% hospital days, 62.0% outpatient surgeries and procedures, and 85% pharmaceutical costs when compared with conventional medicine IPA performance for the same health maintenance organization product in the same geography and time frame.
During the past 7 years, and with a larger population than originally reported, the CAM-oriented PCPs using a nonsurgical/nonpharmaceutical approach demonstrated reductions in both clinical and cost utilization when compared with PCPs using conventional medicine alone. Decreased utilization was uniformly achieved by all CAM-oriented PCPs, regardless of their licensure. The validity and generalizability of this observation are guarded given the lack of randomization, lack of statistical analysis possible, and potentially biased data in this population.

#thoughtoftheweek || It’s really that simple! If you’ve thought chiropractic was anything else, you’ve overthought it. Remove the interference in the nerve system and allow your body to heal itself, from inside. Chiropractic works from sending LIFE from above in the brain, down the spinal cord, inside the nerve and out to the different cells and tissues of the body. We call it ADIO (above down inside out). Expressing the intelligence inside yourself through chiropractic care is one of the best ways to achieve health. #get adjusted #chiropractic #ADIO #doppschiro #chiroblog #drdopps
