A New You: Taking Control of Diabetes
What if this new year everyone agreed to stop being sick and tired—to take meaningful steps to dramatically reduce chronic disease in themselves and their loved ones? While the path may not be simple, it is clear that many would find a new lease on life.
Diabetes is one of the chronic diseases which plagues the United States. Its rise in recent years has been called “alarming” and “terrifying” by the medical profession and the media.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that chronic diseases and conditions, including diabetes, are among the most common, costly, and preventable health problems.
Yet as a society, we treat diabetes almost as a necessary evil: something which we dislike but accept. The need for insulin is treated almost as a mere inconvenience, and doesn’t seem to deter all diabetics from continuing unhealthy lifestyles. Yet true health can’t be achieved by drinking a Mountain Dew and then shooting up some insulin to prevent a diabetic coma from high blood sugar.
We need to realize the seriousness of this disease and take action. “Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, lower-limb amputations other than those caused by injury, and new cases of blindness among adults.” (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. National Diabetes Fact Sheet, 2011)
There are splendid examples of diabetics who have gained control of their disease, proving that conscious choices to lead a healthier life.

The child presented with a subluxation in the upper cervical vertebrae. With 24 chiropractic adjustments, her blood sugar stabilized and her insulin usage decreased from 15 units to 11.
